Published by the official and academic bookseller Hartung in March 1756, the History and Natural Description of the Most Remarkable Occurrences associated with the Earthquake which at the End of 1755 Shook a Large Part of the World responded to local interest aroused by an article on the earthquake which Kant had published in January. However, his lectures also fed indirectly into his published texts. Tracing this influence is an extremely subtle branch of Kant scholarship which it would be inappropriate to pursue too closely at this point, although the following issues may be briefly addressed.
