It seems that at high frequency the scattering and absorption of the trees play an important role, whereas at low frequencies the effect of the ground is more important in sound attenuation. Sound transmission through vegetation foliage in an anechoic chamber was studied with species originated from temperate and tropical zones. The foliage acts as a filter for the noise. At the mid-frequency range (<2 kHz) the noise is slightly amplified, and at high frequencies the noise is attenuated. The sound pressure level is decreased by the plant foliage.
